Posted on Gitbrew's twitter is that petitboot dual booting has been confirmed working on 256MB NAND, fat PS3's. This latest development will bring Linux back to those with older model PS3's, as the previous method was only confirmed for Slim consoles. A guide is expected soon for all of the PS3 Linux users out there.
