PSVita Gets a 20MBs Download Limit

Similar to other mobile devices, Sony will be placing size limits on PlayStation Vita downloads through a 3G connection. In an interview at ASCII, a Sony Computer Entertainment representative said that 3G downloads will be limited to 20 megabyte file sizes initially. The representative added that this value could change in the future.

The ASCII interview covered a number of other topics related to the system's wireless support.

The Sony rep assured that, download size limits aside, both Wi-Fi and 3G users will be able to access the PlayStation Store to make purchases.

In response to a question about 3G's 128Kbps download and 64kbps upload speeds possibly being too slow for some games, for example fighting games, the rep said that Sony is providing software makers with support to ensure that titles that don't give the feeling of technical limitations are developed.

In Japan, Sony has partnered with NTT DoCoMo for 3G service. DoCoMo will sell pre-paid cards costing ¥980 for 20 hours and ¥4,980 for 100 hours of 128Kbps/64Kbps transfer. The 100 hour card includes a bonus three hours of high speed 14 Mbps download and 5.7 Mbps upload.
