Apple Mac Cracked Appstore Applications and Games

With the launch of the Mac App Store, pirates have been at work too. Believe it or not, there are already “cracked” Mac App Store apps, kinda. It seems that there is no DRM on the Mac AppStore. Is it Apple’s fault? Is it the developers fault? Half and half.

Usually an app has receipt checking, which checks to see if an app has actually been purchased or not. So it appears that pirating an app is as easy as downloading it and replacing a couple files. For developers in particular this isn’t good news.
The solution? Well Apple doesn’t add receipt checking themselves. Developers have the choice to include this or not, but some apps don’t. At this rate we don’t know just how many apps are vulnerable to this. What do you think? Bad start to the Mac App Store?

Only copy the _MASReceipt folder. _CodeSignature has stuff that is important to the app.
