PS3 Condor Updater v1.0 Released

Quote (Condorstrike)
Hi guys, I bring you a new PS3 app, Condor Updater v1.0.

This app allows pseudo-recovery mode system firmware update from xmb.
I've tested it with Rogero CFW and Kmeaw, but should work with any Firmware that allows the PKG to install.
No more hold down power crap...lol.

If anyone wants to try on 3.55+ to try and downgrade, my answer is try it...what's there to lose...:P
It should also work on PSP and PS VITA, but I haven't tested.
I think this is a very handy app, and as always, I hope you enjoy my releases...caw!

How to Install:
Install PKG.
Run Condor Updater.
PROFIT!!!

I am not liable if this application disables or damages your console and or handheld, use at your own risk.

PS3 Rogero CFW v3.1 Released

BSOD problem on some PS3 machines after downgrade now is fixed..

Usage / Compatibility:
- Can be used for Downgrade directly using a hardware flasher like Progskeet / E3 Flasher / Teensy++, etc...
- Can be used for normal system update like any other CFW/MFW from XMB or from Recovery Menu.

Internal Structure:
New Features:
- Built-in system version spoof to 4.11 to prevent accidental system updates (won't allow going online in any way)
- NoBD Patch to allow installing it with the Blu-Ray drive disconnected (especially for downgrading purposes)
- Have other fixes that prevents the Black screen or Payload loading problems encountered on some PS3 systems.

Standard Features:
- Kmeaw patched Lv2 with necessary patches to allow Peek/Poke support (same games compatibility as Kmeaw CFW)
- LV1 Checks Disabled to bypass the Syscon hashes for downgraded consoles.
- Privacy Patch applied to block communications with all Sony servers.
- Custom Boot Logo.
- built-in "Heavy Rain" dynamic theme.

This is a better optimized version of the previous MFW released, This one is a Custom firmware built manually by patching and packing the files and the final PUP package using the well known "failoverflow" public set of tools and having "Kmeaw" as the base firmware unlike it's previous version which was a Modified firmware built using the famous MFW builder application and using an OFW3.55 as the base firmware.

History:
After several days and more testing of the first MFW released for downgrading from 3.70-->3.55 I had some users feedback from #progskeet-support that some PS3 machines are having either the Registry Corrupted/Blue Screen or just a Black Screen after downgrade that required re-installing the MFW from Recovery Menu or reflashing the NOR in some cases.

Further research about the donwgrade V2 patches and the no_check.PUP with some more testing showed that a Kmeaw based LV2 seems to have better compatibility with the Downgrade patches applied to the NOR image then a MFW built with a patched LV2, so I decided to build a new version manually which is a custom firmware that combines Kmeaw LV2 patches with Dospiedras Lv1 no-check patches and having the minimal/necessary set of patches to preserve the best overall stability.

Thanks to the all the beta testers especially Blakcat & Marlboro1

N.B: please note that Rogero Manager v8.5 (to be released soon) or newer are only compatible with this CFW V2 because the CFW have the built in version spoofed to 3.70 and older versions of the Manager (8.4 and lower can't recognize it and won't be able to load the necessary payload.

Cheers

PSVita Half Byte Loader Released

If you are lucky enough to be one of the few owners of Motorstorm Arctic Edge, VHBL is now available for download.

Please report Success/Failure here or on our forums.

As you will see, installing homebrews is a bit of a pain, so if you’re a good hearted guy who understands my explanations in the readme, please feel free to share homebrews packaged “correctly” for VHBL. Note: you can have several homebrews in one “install” file. For example if you zip all your PSP/GAME folder, all the homebrews in there can be installed at once by VHBL.

CREDITS:
HBL port to the KR/US/EU/JP versions of the exploit by Wololo

Thanks go to:
Teck4 for the Motorstorm exploit
All the devs who made HBL what it is today, in particular m0skit0 and JJS
Mamosuke, j416, Some1, and all the other devs who kept the secret, that’s much appreciated guys
Monsieur2T2R for the cool VHBL icons/wallpapers

For now, I’m off to bed, but I’ll be sure to post more in the days to come, with updates, tutos, technical explanations, etc…

PSVita Half Byte Loader Title Announced

As a result, Sony has officially removed the Motorstorm Arctic Edge title from PlayStation Store.

Ok, so, since the PSN maintenance is being postponed, there is no reason for me to not give the name of the game used by Teck4 for his exploit:

The Game is Motorstorm Arctic Edge, also known as Motorstorm Raging Ice in Japan. It is available for 19.99 euro on most European Playstation Stores, 15.99 Pounds in the UK, and for 3800 yen on the Japanese store.

Note for North American readers: that game, despite being available on the US Store, is marked as not compatible with the Vita in the US. People who have bought it in the US and tried to transfer it to their vita have failed as far as I know, which is why a few days ago I recommended people in the US to get a European PSN account.

Now what's next?

Well it's simple and stressful at the same time: I'm giving you guys a couple days to buy a copy of that game if you think VHBL is worth it (and assuming you trust that I'm not lying), and then I'll release the VHBL files. There are pros and cons to this "2 steps" release. The cons are that you have to trust me, and there's a possibility Sony actually patches/patched something without me knowing it, the pros are that I don't think Sony will remove the game from their store until they actually have something to patch, so I think this gives you guys a couple days to buy the game.

Or, you can wait until I release the files and other people confirm it works, at which point you run the risk that Sony patches the exploit and/or removes the game from the store before you can even buy it.

Now, let me be clear once again: buy the game if you want to play it, I have no way to guarantee VHBL will work for you, I can just tell that a few days ago this was confirmed to work by a few testers.

Also keep in mind that VHBL gives you no iso, no special access to the Vita hardware, just a limited PSP homebrew experience on your vita. If like me you think it's fun, then you might be interested. Or, if you think that 20 euros is a fair price for one of the best PSP games, then, well, just consider VHBL as a "bonus".

VHBL has been confirmed to work on firmware 1.61. If your console asks you to update to firmware 1.62 or something, I cannot guarantee it will still work. It is also recommended, after you bought the game, to be paranoid and disconnect your console from the network, and to install openCMA. Again, there are lots of unknown things going on with the Vita, it is impossible for me to tell if this will work for everyone.

As far as I know, there are 5 versions of this game out there. I ported VHBL to 4 of them, and I am sure the fifth one is vulnerable too, but I couldn't find any place selling or "distributing" it, so I couldn't port the exploit to it. That being said, it should be "doable" if somebody can get a copy, to port the exploit to that version as well.

Finally, for those who want proof, here's a video:

I want to thank the people who made this release go as smoothly as possible, especially Teck4 and Mamosuke, HBL devs (in particular m0skit0 and JJS, thanks for lurking on the scene for so long, you guys are the real deal!) the mods at /talk who have helped a lot over the past week, the handful of devs/testers who know how to keep a secret (you know who you are), but also the thousands of /talk users who, for some of them, have been knowing the game's name for several days now, and haven't leaked anything.

You guys are truly an awesome community, you can of course now go ahead and let your friends know, or brag about how you've known about the game for a while and hold the secret. It was so far an awesome experiment, let's hope the result will be worth it!

PSVita Half Byte Loader to be Released on March 2nd

Quote (Wololo):
This has been a tough week for lots of you, coming to my blog everyday to see that no new information was available about the release of VHBL. Trust me, it’s been a much tougher week for me, making sure things go according to my humble plan, coping with a few more issues than expected, and overall, taking all the insults about “being a faker” or “trying to boost my ego” without being able to say anything else than “please trust me”.

Ok, let’s reveal a few essential things here, starting with the bad news: The game used by Teck4′s exploit is not available on the US vita store. Blame Sony and their “275 out of 900 PSP games available for your vita” scheme for this, not us. Part of the waiting time was to see if Sony would add this game to the US store at some point. It is obviously compatible since it is available in other continents, so my guess is that this is a marketing or a legal decision. Long story short, people in the US who want to enjoy HBL on their vita, for now, will have to create a European (or HK, or JP,…) PSN account, buy a PSN card for that specific store (google for online shops that can sell you those and email you the code within a few minutes), and buy the game from there. A 20 euros card will cover for the price of the game as far as I know (Update: a 20 pounds card will be enough on the UK store).

This also means you’ll have to “link” your vita to a European store every time you want to use HBL. Yes, it’s super impractical, yes, it makes HBL even less likely to be interesting for you if you’re in the US, but no, that clearly was not part of the plan. The game is, after all, available on the US PSN Store, just not for the vita.

I do not plan to wait even more until Sony adds the game to the US Vita store, since that could pretty well never happen, and is wasting everybody’s time (people waiting for HBL in Asia have been waiting for this release for almost 3 months now, keep that in mind if you are one of the few who complained that you had to wait for a week). We waited a week for good measure, and saw that Sony is not adding PSP titles on a daily basis.

Waiting in hope for the game to be added to the US store is not the only reason that I “waited” for the release, but that’s one of the reasons. Another reason is that there is a maintenance of the PSN, inconveniently scheduled on march 1st, that is, basically 2 days after I initially planned to publicly reveal the name of the game. After discussing with a bunch of people, I’ve decided to wait until after the PSN maintenance to reveal the name of the game. Best case scenario, the game magically appears on the store and everybody’s happy (I wouldn’t dream about that), worst case scenario, the PSN update patches some of the vulnerabilities used for VHBL, and we’re screwed. So we’ll see…

I’m using the opportunity to remind everybody that HBL is only a PSP homebrew loader. The exploit and HBL do not give you any access to PSP isos, or vita isos, or the vita system, or anything like that. Even compatibility with PSP homebrews is limited, so basically you’re better off getting a hacked PSP if playing homebrews is really what you want, and you’re better off going elsewhere if piracy or pure vita hacking is what you’re looking for. Basically, this hack is for those of us who want to be part of the “first step”, however insignificant that step might be. Other people should not buy the game and then blame me for spending their money foolishly, the choice is entirely yours.

I’m just trying to cover my #ss here: don’t go and buy a PSN PSP game for your vita if you’re deeply expecting something useful out of this. You should buy the game first to play it, second, as a bonus, to get HBL to (maybe) work with it. Again, HBL has been confirmed to work by a few people already, but I cannot predict if Sony will do a magical trick to patch the game under our feet.

Unless something goes wrong, the name of the game will be publicly announced here on March 2nd, after the March 1st PSN maintenance (give me up to 24 hours, I’m not necessarily in the same timezone as you and I also have a real life). The files for VHBL itself will be available shortly after that.

PS3 Solar v4.1 Released

Today Condorstrike posted a new update to Solar for mmCM. If you are unsure what solar is it is a space system theme for Multiman. Check out the changelog and download below.

Quote (Condorstrike)
Hi guys, Here's another update, Solar v4.1.

I added a bunch of stuff as time allowed, like .TTF fonts, a new more realistic UI with centralized data and new cool animations. Also some major 3D engine fixes, a little more camera control..."WIP" and other little things, like proper naming lenghts, and faster music titles selection. I took a couple of days off from working on Solar and got bored quickly, so I made an mmCM theme called METRO, 100% compatible with the latest version 04.02.00, but I really don't have time to make themes, so I won't be making any more...

As always I hope you enjoy my releases, and I thank my tortuga family and all my other friends in the PS3 scene... you know who you are.

PS: /me slaps moogie around a bit with a large trout.

Changelog:
- Added .TTF fonts, themable "font1.ttf & font2.ttf" in theme folder.
- Added more camera freedom, WIP.
- Added a new UI with moving buttons, gauge and speakers.
- Moved all info to a centralized location thanks to new UI.
- Freed up some more memory.
- Added faster MP3 selection, just hold down.
- Added Higher resolution Images, now more loaded from HDD.
- Fixed MP3 long names... thanks DeanK.
- Added PARAM.HIP... thanks Opium2K.
- Removed some bugs.

Jay Freeman Comments on Why Cydia Reloads Data

Quote (Jay Freeman):
Cydia, unlike the App Store (or almost any similar service), stores the entire package catalog locally. This is why it can (quite quickly, in fact) render an insanely long table with all packages in it that you can just fling your way through, while the App Store shows you 25 packages at a time with a slow "load more" button.

However, this means that it actually has to keep that many packages locally, and has to keep their records up to date. From a "cold start", downloading the package catalog is something like three megabytes, compressed (totalled from BigBoss, ModMyi, and ZodTTD).

Downloading those large files, often at around the same time other people are downloading them, from centralized and not terribly well organized hosting, really sucks. This is made even worse by them often not following my recommendations on "diff indices" (causing you to have to redownload the entire catalogs randomly).

However, honestly, even that isn't a serious problem unless everyone is coordinating their downloads due to a jailbreak or something: the key issue is that the reason we have this distributed package catalog infrastructure is because people can and do use entirely-random totally-third-party repositories.

While BigBoss, ModMyi, etc. are setup with diff-indices, almost no other repositories in the ecosystem are. If you install another large repository, you are probably downloading that entire catalog every time it refreshes (which might be almost a megabyte of data, even compressed), from some likely sketchy/small server.

If that server is offline, it is an even more serious problem: TCP sucks over mobile protocols, and it is really difficult to just claim "ok, that server is down" rather than "that server is slow" (difficult to impossible even in the best of cases). This can make that step take nigh-unto insanely long as it is trying to painstakingly download these files.

One possible solution to this is offline index updates, but there has been serious pushback on those in the past (as many users overseas, and even now in the US, have limited and even overly expensive data plans; it is important to not use data when they don't consider it "safe").

However, those cause the other problem that almost all users of Cydia simply don't realize that it is an offline app: seriously none of the services people compare it to work like that (the closest I can think of is the much-more-rare PreWare, the Cydia-a-like for WebOS).

This means that when users read about something online that is "now available", they open Cydia and if it isn't available they tweet, e-mail, call, comment... whatever they can figure out to do with a phrase similar to "why is it not in my Cydia".

Users are honestly more willing to believe they don't have the right source installed (as to them there are so many and they think they should have all of them on their phone... there are users out there with over 50 sources installed... I can't imagine what their refresh time must be like) than that they need to refresh some weird offline database.

Unfortunately, moving "fully online" (where each interaction with the app takes 2 seconds of network time and you can only see 25 packages at a time; aka, exactly like the App Store, which I find due to this to be frustratingly and painfully slow in comparison to a loaded copy of Cydia) isn't an option. :(

I ran some statistics a few days ago, and it is in fact the vast minority of people who stick only to the default repositories. The fun of Cydia simply seems to be installing and finding interesting repositories, some of which are run by two people in a garage, and some of which are run by large companies (often with a single package in them).

So, we are left in a place where we are constantly looking at ways of producing hybrid models, or at least figuring out ways to improve the performance of people who use the recommended subset of repositories. Certainly, I hate it when default repositories go offline temporarily, and am working with them to improve (or even outright replace) their hosting.

In the meantime, though: Cydia is an offline database containing tens of thousands of entries that has the user-requirement of being able to search and interact with those tens of thousands of entries in sufficiently "real-time" that users can rapidly and smoothly scroll through all of the packages in the entire catalog, filtered for a category or sorted by some Unicode locale.

Given that set of constraints, I'd say that Cydia is doing a "bang-up job", considering that the slowest step (and certainly the primary one that users complain about on any device less than a couple years old) really and honestly is "downloading that catalog from a distributed and entirely unrelated-to-each-other set of sources ran by random users on the Internet, most of whom have no experience with hosting or operations". ;P

PS3 Spoofer Tool v5.0 Released

Following up on my first release of spoofer PKG tools, I upgraded them to one PKG for each CFW for enable or disable Spoof (both functions in one) and with a GUI for enabling spoof (if something is wrong it will restore your PS3 files preventing a RSOD on the PlayStation 3).

Spoofer Tool for PC is updated too, the actual version is 5.0, now tools spoofer_pup.exe, spoofer_pup_repack.exe, spoofer.exe and a new one, spoofer_pkg.exe, are all in one, a new spoofer.exe tool upgraded

PS3 Spoofer Tools v5.0

Now you can choose version and image version to spoof and build a PKG with it to install in your PS3, is upgraded and fixed like other tools (keys.exe and extractor.exe).

The new options in spoofer.exe are:
help: Show info screen
files: Spoof single files (use extractor.exe or copy your dev_flash files in Spoofed folder) *
pkg: Spoof your files and build a PKG
pup_files: Extract PUP files and spoof *
pup_rebuild: Extract files, spoof and re-build PUP file spoofed
*: You must copy manually to your PS3 with this option

For example, if you want spoof with version 4.50 and image version 88888 and build a PKG (Remember navigate to folder in Cygwin console):
./spoofer.exe -pkg 04.5000 88888
Now you will see a PKG file named Spoofer Enabler & Disabler.pkg with your files spoofed

PS3 Spoofer Enabler & Disabler

This enable (9.99) or disable spoof for your CFW, simply install *ONLY THE PKG FOR YOUR CFW* (CFW Kmeaw = PKG for Kmeaw) and run it in XMB, you will see the menu, first if you wish to continue choose "Yes" or if you wish exit to XMB choose "No".

If you continue program will ask you if you want enable spoof, and for disable in this screen choose "No" and you will be able to disable spoof. At the moment of enabling spoof, it will create a backup of your dev_flash files to restore and prevent RSOD

As always, if you see something wrong, please tell me.

Hope this helps someone.

Regards

PSVita Daedalusx64 Confirmed Working on VHBL

Our friend website daxhordes.org got an early copy of VHBL and confirmed for me that VHBL works fine with the EU version of the exploit on a European PS Vita. (For those who worry that this is a fake or a leak, that copy of VHBL was sent by me to m0skit0, and I agreed that daxhordes could publish an article and photos on the subject). Here are the screenshots, which also reveal the cool new wMenu/VHBL background (thanks to Monsieur2T2R for these great designs).

The release is near, please just a bit more patience (and again, I can give no date, just know that it’s coming)

No, I don’t know why the Doom background looks messed up, it didn’t do that in my tests, hopefully that’s just a minor glitch

PS3 Paintown Mod SaintSeiya v0.1 Released

Quote (Markus95):
Hi all,
After the Wii version of my second Mod Paintown: Saintseiya v0.1, here is the PS3 version.

Just a reminder, Paintown is developed and adapted by Jon Rafkind on PS3 and Schristopher Lunuxx, it is a question of a beat 'em all to the old style of Street of Rage or Double Dragon else to mention that they ...
You will find complete information, versions (Win, Linux, Wii, etc ...) for download on the official website of paintown at: paintown.sourceforge.net

My Mod is dedicated to one of my favorite manga Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac).
This is no more than a first version, far from being finished, but already well supplied ...
I have gathered the bulk of the manga, trying to be as faithful to the work of the great original Masami Kurumada.
I have therefore taken the broad outlines of this fabulous manga, my Mod starts early and ends it at the end of the period of the Sanctuary (which for me is the best part of the work of the master ...)

Changelog:
12 Stages Stage 1 + Tuto
22 playable characters
Select an internship
The original music
Official voices in French
Adding effect in some course
And all the latest news from Paintown

Since the first version, it is not complete, some characters have not all their techniques, some courses are not finalized (if you encounter any bugs, thank you for the reports that I corrected for the next release. ..)

Installation:
Install paintown.pkg by the packages install
Unzip the archive data.rar
Copy the data folder in dev_hdd0/game/Paintown_/USRDIR / ... FTP
Paintown Run from the XMB
Select Change Mod, then saintseiya.

the MFW from Recovery Menu or reflashing the NOR in some cases.
Further research about the donwgrade V2 patches and the no_check.PUP with some more testing
showed that a Kmeaw based LV2 seems to have better compatibility with the Downgrade patches

How to Install gpSPHONE Gameboy Advance Emulator for Apple Devices

Wololo Comments on VHBL

Two days ago, the Playstation Vita was officially released in Europe and in the US. If you follow this blog, you know I’ve been bragging a lot recently about how we can run PSP homebrew on the Vita, using VHBL, through an exploit in the PSP emulator.

I’ve also said I would wait for the EU/US release of the Vita before releasing this port of HBL. It’s already been two days, Wololo, so what the F…?

Well, if you have a good memory, you’ll also remember that I mentioned many times how this exploit would be easy to patch, and how a public release of HBL would directly lead to sony patching the vulnerability(ies) involved in this hack. And I’m still convinced this will happen, but I’ve decided to fight against this the best possible way I could think of. I cannot disclose too much details, but trust me when I say I’ve rarely been as active as in the past two days, in order to make sure this HBL release is happening smoothly. You guys are worried of getting the hack or not, I on the other hand, am worried of getting thousands of people to buy a game and see Sony patch the exploit before anybody can use it (that’s waaay too much pressure for a simple PSP homebrew loader). This risk exists, and I am trying my best to minimize it. The process is going on (things such as, actually testing VHBL on non Japanese versions of the game,…), and I cannot stress enough that lots of the details cannot be described for now, but hopefully when the release happens you guys will understand what I’ve tried to do. I’m not pretending I can outsmart Sony, or that my plan will work flawlessly, but I’ll try my best. Some things, so far, are going very smoothly, others are not, Sony took some steps (maybe unknowingly) that will make HBL more difficult to run for some people, but again I cannot give too much details on that.

People are asking me if I can give a precise date of “when” I will announce the name of the game and/or release the HBL files. The answer to that is no, for various reasons, because the fuzziness here is part of my humble plan. I’m just saying it will happen, this whole thing is not a fake, and I’m doing my best for it to happen as soon as possible.

Some people are asking me if I can at least give hints on the price, or the quality of the game, or stuff like that… I’m sorry, I can’t. I know it’s important to some of you, to plan your PSN card purchases, etc, but to me (that’s a really personal opinion because I am deeply involved in this release) it’s important to not mess this up. Maybe I could give some hints now, maybe it wouldn’t be too big a deal, but many people, not only me, have kept this exploit a secret for a looong time, so I would hate myself if I completely screw up this release (I’m using the opportunity to thank the few people who know about this exploit and haven’t leaked anything yet, it’s great to be able to trust you guys, you know who you are). To give a better example, if you send me 3 emails from 3 different addresses and ask me 3 different questions about the price, you could probably narrow it down to a list of a few games, and I can’t know if you work for Sony or something… Keep in mind that I don’t care, I have the exploit already, so I’m not doing this (not giving the price) because I hate you or anything.

Some people are afraid that they’ll go to bed, and when they wake up it’s too late because Sony patched the exploit. Yes, this could happen, but the release process I have in mind aims at making this unlikely. I’m hoping the time between me making this public and Sony taking any measure will be a matter of days rather than hours. I’m thinking, among other things, about what happened for the hot shots golf exploit, where Sony actually took weeks to fix the issue. After all, they were selling a game, and nobody was doing any piracy, so maybe at that time they understood it was a win-win situation. Bottom line, don’t stop sleeping for this, I would feel really bad about that!

One thing is clear to me: some people won’t have access to this exploit. What I’m doing now is my best to make sure that people who are following this blog these days will get access to the exploit. Among other things, I am trying to find a balance between releasing this as soon as possible, but also not screw people who are still waiting for the Vita to actually be shipped to their place.

A final word: what I will be distributing is just HBL, a loader for psp homebrews. You can already run PSP homebrews from a regular PSP, with a better compatibility rate, and for a cheaper price. So please, don’t get too excited. I don’t want people to come back at me after they try it, and tell me “wow, it’s difficult to use, I’m constantly afraid that Sony will patch it so I’m never using the PSN anymore, only half of the homebrews I tried are working, and this doesn’t have any access to the Vita hardware…”. Yes, I’m aware of that, and I’m sure much better and convenient hacks will come in the future, so please, please, keep that in mind when you get (or not) access to the info.

Many of you have waited for weeks for this release, I’m asking everyone to be just a little more patient, thanks a lot for your understanding

Well I was playing some Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 on PS3 and I had decided I would mess around with the Striker shotgun.

PSVita VHBL Still Works on Firmware 1.61

As confirmed earlier by Teck4, VHBL still seems to work fine on vita’s firmware 1.61. I say “seems” because testing this is very difficult.

After all, I’m running on a version of the game that was bought back in December, and for all I know, it got patched or something… I surely hope not. Firmware 1.61 does not seem to bring much, and, luckily this time, I didn’t have to upgrade CMA on top of the Vita.

Every firmware update is obviously very stressful and makes me realize even more the fragility of this exploit. I wish I could say like the failOverfl0w team for the ps3, or the prometheus team for the pandora batteries: “Sony can’t patch it without a hardware revision”, but I don’t have that confidence. It’s actually the opposite. There are so many ways this exploit can be patched, it’s not even funny. As I mentioned a while ago, my only hope with this is that Sony will say the same thing that pirates are saying: “it doesn’t run PSP or Vita isos, it doesn’t even access the Vita hardware, so who cares?”. Well I do, and I’d be super happy if a few people can use it. Sure, those are “only” PSP homebrews, but trust me, the Vita screen and memory stick improved access times make those homebrews look cool again

Mamosuke contacted me yesterday to let me know that for some reason, copying VHBL from a PS3 to the Vita doesn’t work properly, as the PS3 fails to copy some of the files. I’ll have to verify that myself, but for now (or, rather, when you get VHBL), I recommend to copy from a PC instead of a PS3.

On a side note, we banned almost 50 accounts on /talk, mostly belonging to Japanese users, by mistake. We fixed that and unbanned most accounts, but if you registered today or yesterday and are having problems to login on /talk, please contact me directly and I’ll see what I can do. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Seas0npass Updated for "Stitching"

Quote (Firecore):
Today we are happy to release a new version of Seas0nPass that simplifies the installation of older firmware versions. This process called 'stitching' allows Seas0nPass to utilize previously saved firmware signatures to jailbreak and restore an AppleTV version that Apple may no longer be signing.

PS3 FTP Client v1.1 by AldoStools Released

Changelog:
(Installer, find files, cancel transfer, bug fixes, etc.)

I have made a new toy… these are the features:

- It rips files (dummies, languages, update, etc) stored on the PS3 HDD/USB via FTP.
- New simulation mode (shows the results of a rip)
- If you have a folder with PS3 covers in your PC (eg. MCLUB jpgs), the cover is displayed when a remote folder that matches the titleid is selected (eg. BLES80608)
- Displays a column with the description of the game (based on the title id)
- It is a “full” ftp client based on wininet
It requires the VB5 Runtime DLL.
It is still experimental, some features are not complete, but at least the remote file ripper should work…
Final note: Use with care!! Remember that it touches the internal files in the HDD of your PS3.. The PS3RIP is safer.

PS3 ThatOtherDev Updates Homebrew and Source Code

Here are some very small updates. The projection matrix is being properly calculated now so it takes into account the actual aspect ratio and uses the correct FOV resulting in the games looking more like their Wii and Windows counterparts (though some of them still noticeably fall short in other ways). In addition to that the games that previously instructed you to press the A button to start the game now correctly tell you to press the X button. When playing in Neo Tanks you now only shoot when holding the R1 button. There have been some changes made to the ship in Neo Trail and the symbols have been removed from the sides of blocks.

Cherophobe v1.1
Cylinder Dodge v1.1
Gambol v0.3
Hero City v0.6
Neo Tanks v0.3
Neo Trail v0.2

You can download the source code for all of my publicly released PS3 stuff (since I switched to using PSL1GHT and with the exception of Avoidance) here. The last time I uploaded source for my PS3 stuff was before I made Neo Trail and a few other things and anyways the hosting sites I used at the time (fileserve and mulitupload) have effectively shut down so this is the only place to get it right now.

IOS 5.0.1 Bug Discovered: Bypass Passcode on Lockscreen

A bug in iOS 5.0.1 discovered by Safwan Saba and verified by iPhoneIslam lets you bypass a user's passcode to access their contacts list, make calls, and send emails.

In this video we discuss a major iOS 5 security flaw discovered by (Safwan Saba) that allows you to go to someone's contacts list to make phone calls, text messages, and emails even if the person has a passcode on their phone. This works for all iPhones.

To bypass the passcode you must open a missed call notification when the network is searching. This is accomplished by being in low signal area or reinserting the SIM card.

How To:
1. You must have a missed call notification
2. Take the sim card off
3. Return it and slide on the missed call notification
OR
don't take off the sim, just be in a place with VERY low coverage and slide on the missed call notification.
4. You should get get error in calling and a "DONE" button
5. Press it and you should be in the phone app!
Check the video on how to do that!
Remember: it might don't work from first time! Keep trying!

How this trick works:
It's all about very low coverage. Taking the sim off and put it back will give you about 1-2 sec with no coverage, in these 1-2 seconds if you call, it will give you "call failed". That error is what should be fixed, because if you press done, it will take you to phone app

PS3 True Blue Dongle Payload Discovered

I (aka shadoxi) figured out where is located the payload of Trueblue and cobra dongle. You can find it at offset @360000 in lv2_kernel and 7f0000 in ps3 memory.

First of all you need to edit the header of lv2_kernel.self (from cfw trueblue) at offset 0×1D, replace 36 1A 00 by 4C FC F0. And decrypt it with unself tool from fail0verFlow. Open lv2_kernel.elf with Ida pro (in binary file mode), go to offset 360000 and press “C” to convert to asm code.

TrueBlue use some HVCALL:
lv1_insert_htab_entry
lv1_undocumented_function_114
lv1_undocumented_function_115
lv1_allocate_device_dma_region
lv1_map_device_dma_region
lv1_net_start_tx_dma
lv1_net_control
lv1_panic (shutdown ps3 when TB is unplugged)

This payload do some hvcall:
lv1_insert_htab_entry (map lv1)
lv1_allocate_device_dma_region (?)
lv1_map_device_dma_region (?)
lv1_net_start_tx_dma (?)
lv1_net_control (?)
lv1_panic (shutdown ps3 when TrueBlue Dongle is unplugged)
lv1_undocumented_function_114 (map lv1)
lv1_undocumented_function_115 (unmap lv1)

We need now to dump lv2 and lv1 memory when TrueBlue is plugged. So I create a modified TrueBlue Cfw with peek and poke syscall. It work fine.

We hope to see it compatible with Multiman. Stay Tuned.
